The E-2 Hawkeye entered service in January, 1964 and plays an important role as the eyes and ears of the fleet. These aircraft are deployed ahead to monitor surface and air contacts and maintain a 24-hour watch.
The E-2 has the distinction of being the longest production run of any carrier based aircraft. The type is also used by several allies.
